A dream team of musicians

The Britten Oboe Quartet will play a programme of Mozart, Elizabeth Lutyens and Rutland Boughton. The concert includes the world première of a piece from composers Colin Hazel and Peter Whittle.

The quartet comprise Nicholas Daniel on oboe, Jacqueline Shave on violin, Clare Finnimore on viol and Caroline Dearnley on cello.

They will play Mozart’s Oboe Quartet in F K370, Rutland Boughton’s Oboe Quartet No 2, Colin Hazel / Peter Whittle’s Zeugma and Elizabeth Lutyens’ Driving out the Death.

The quartet has received high praise from national publications. The New Statesman said: “If you were assembling the chamber music equivalent of a fantasy football team, chances are that the oboist Nicholas Daniel and the violinist Jacqueline Shave would all be high on the list. Add the wonderful Caroline Dearnley on cello and Clare Finnimore on viola and you have a supergroup of serious heft.”

The Times meanwhile described Nicholas Daniel as “arguably Britain’s most virtuosic and adventurous instrumentalist.”
