And it looks like being an extra special occasion as he recounts anecdotes about luminaries such as Stephane Grappelli, Nigel Kennedy, his brother Andrew, Elton John and other celebrities he met at recording sessions, concerts and TV shows. He’s also inviting local cellists to bring their own instuments to perform alongside him – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a mini masterclass.

Julian said: “I’m really looking forward to it because I might never do another tour again. There’s an element of retrospection about it, going back over what I’ve done.

“I’ve started conducting and I want to become more involved in music education because I feel I can do a lot in that area.”

Coming from arguably the most influential musical dynasty of our time, Julian admits he has no idea what career path he would have followed had he not been exposed to music at such a young age.

“I hate the fact that some children go through school without learning an instrument or hearing any of the great composers,” he said. “When I was growing up Face the Music was on prime time television.

“Today’s programmers are running scared. But they shouldn’t underestimate public opinion – when a classical piece comes on at a major sports event, everyone loves it.”
