A night to remember them

The evening will involve three elegiac classics for violin and piano duo composed by Elgar, Debussy and Janáček, performed by one of Britain’s leading violinists, Matthew Trusler, and the distinguished pianist Martin Roscoe.

BBC Radio 3’s and Luton Music’s recently-elected president, Petroc Trelawny will read inspirational poems and letters by Wilfred Owen, including The Sentry, Disabled and Strange Meeting.

On graduating from Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute in 1998, the Times declared of Matthew Trusler that “we might just have an authentic, though British, virtuoso.”

Since then Trusler has developed a reputation as one of Britain’s leading violinists, performing with many of the world’s great orchestras, and receiving huge critical acclaim for his diverse recordings.

Martin Roscoe’s career has spanned over four decades and he is now one of the UK’s best-loved pianists.

He works frequently with many of the UK’s leading orchestras, including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and the the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

The music comprises Janáček’s Sonata for Violin and Piano (1914), Debussy’s Sonata for Violin and Piano (1917) and Elgar’s Sonata for Violin and Piano (1918)
