Anne Frank: A powerful tale of innocence in the face of evil

It is presenting The Diary of Anne Frank at The Little Theatre, Dunstable, on May 13,15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22 and 23.

Anne Frank is famous for the diary that she kept from June 12, 1942, until August 4, 1944.

On July 6, 1942, Anne, her sister Margot and her parents and three friends went into hiding in German-occupied Holland. Their hiding place, the annexe, was in a specially prepared space above the offices of their business.

Anne was one of the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis. Had her father, the only member of the family to survive the death camps, not thought to revisit the attic in which he took refuge with his family and there come across the diary his late daughter had written to relieve the awful tedium of her years in hiding, nobody would have heard of Anne Frank.

A spokesman for the theatre group said: “The play reveals to us an understanding of what it was like for innocence to confront possibly the ultimate evil of relentless persecution and to try to construct a way of living through it.

“Through it all, what shines like a beacon is Anne’s indomitable spirit and a hope.”
