Boost for Luton Library Theatre

The former White Swan landlord has already organised two events at the boutique venue which faces possible closure if funding runs out.

Declan said: “I’m inviting theatre groups and companies to come to Luton with their dramas and musicals to inject some life into what is a great facility and an important asset for the people of Luton.

“We’ll also be asking local entertainment groups of all ages to help revive the spirit of having a good time and enjoying a night out in the current difficult climate.”

He added: “We’re collaborating with lots of actors, TV personalities and entertainers who come from Luton and the surrounding area with a view to working with us and giving something back to the town where they grew up, were educated and made friends.

“This could be the start of a promising and exciting time for the arts in a very comfortable and intimate theatre.”

First up on the Duggan bill on Saturday September 21 is Beatle Mal – the story of the Fab Four’s roadie Mal Evans, played by Nick Wood-Jones.

Saturday October 19 sees The Craic Was Good in Cricklewood, based on the best selling book The Men Who Built Britain, with music by Joe Giltrap.

A spokesperson for Luton Culture, the charity which operates the theatre, said: “We’re always delighted when members of the community show their love of and commitment to Luton’s arts and culture venues.

“We also appreciate all fundraising efforts made on our behalf.”
