Brighton beckons for NGYT

The company that’s dedicated to giving young people a chance to shine has had its play The Butterfly Catcher accepted for this year’s Brighton Fringe Festival.

NGYT founder David Lloyd said: “It’s the perfect opportunity to present Luton as we know it: creative, talented and and above all a community that longs to be heard and represented.

“This play, with music, is a high school love story capturing the feelings and thoughts of young people as they collectively voice their concerns about the pressures placed on them in education.”

It was devised and debuted at Luton Library Theatre last summer in association with Luton Culture.

NGYT patron scriptwriter Jack Thorne is supporting the Brighton project, as is Luton Mela.

But David is hoping local businesses will also step into the breach to fund the £4,000 needed to get the company to The Pit venue from May 25 - 28.

“I’d be very grateful if they could email [email protected] to discuss sponsorship,” he said.

NGYT company member Sam Edmunds, 19, said it was important to present a positive side of the town: “The perception will never change unless we go out and show people the good that is here . . . Brighton can be the start.”
