Mark Woods, 49, from Icknield, has his very own garden bar dedicated to Luton Town Football Club, and was delighted to treat his fellow contestants to a night to remember.

The new series marks the 15th anniversary of Channel 4’s iconic show, and Mark is starring in this week’s laugh-out-loud episodes.

He said: “We have got a bar in the garden so my wife and I were sitting there and an advert for the show came up on her Facebook.

“I’d had a few drinks and thought ‘this would be a good laugh’, so Sally applied for me and put my name down. Over 500 people entered.

“I think I was chosen because I’m talkative, I like a party and I’m quite funny. I can talk and talk - I’m not shy!”

Mark and his fellow contestants Heidi, Sylvia, Benjy and Nicky all promise plenty of chuckles in this week’s dinner drama thanks to an ode to Madonna, a holiday theme, and a Boy George costume that gets compared to Worzel Gummidge!

Meanwhile, Hatters fans will also get to peer into Mark’s special bar, with the boozer boasting football shirts, memorabilia and an around the world shot glass collection.

Mark said: “I think Friday was the best night because we knew what to expect and had got to know the film crew, sound man and runner. We all had a great laugh together!”

Luckily for Mark, the last day of filming was his turn to host and in Friday’s episode he will be rustling up saganaki, kleftiko and melt in the middle chocolate pudding.

Mark added: “I’m quite a fussy eater and I went into it thinking that I probably wouldn’t like anything, but I tried a lot that I wouldn’t ordinarily eat. Although there was some lumpy mash and some carrots that looked like they hadn’t been shown a saucepan - let alone cooked!”

And was Mark worried about the famous sarcastic voiceover of Dave Lamb?
