Impressive line-up for LutonAid weekend

LutonAid is celebrating ten years of local musicians coming together to raise funds for Keech Hospice care this year, with an impressive line-up boasting four-piece extreme metal band Aghast.

The band played the Sophie Lancaster Stage at Bloodstock in 2014 and released their critically acclaimed album, All the Rage, in October. Bedfordshire Metal 2 the Masses favourites Alone With Wolves will also be performing, along with Scar City, who played the BBC Introducing Stage at Rhythms of the World.

Held at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts for the second year, this two day music extravaganza will take place on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11. Bands include local favourites Dive Like Casey, who have reformed especially to headline the anniversary show, Hazard and Cerberus, as well as new-to-LutonAid, Hot Mess, Beardmore and Spacegoat. Bedfordshire Metal 2 the Masses finalists The Awful Truth, Countless Skies and F.S.I are also performing.

Mariana Brown, chair of LutonAid Music Academy (LAMA), started LutonAid in 2005 to raise funds for Keech Hospice Care for Adults and Children as a thank you for the care given to Bill Candlish who had muscular dystrophy. It was so successful, she ran it again and again. Ten years on, LutonAid is an established music event in Luton’s calendar. It is run by committee, has a dedicated and highly organised team of volunteers and has showcased hundreds of bands whilst raising thousands of pounds for Keech.

LutonAid and LAMA were awarded charity status in 2012. Paul Curry, LutonAid secretary, said: “I became involved in LutonAid because it raised money for a very worthy cause . We couldn’t not do it now.”

Mariana said: “LutonAid is a fantastic day out for music lovers and we are immensely proud that it has been going for ten years. We have a great line up this year with Marshall Amps sponsoring us and we are very excited. I’d urge anyone who hasn’t been before to make this anniversary show and see just how fantastic it is.”

Doors open 7pm on the Friday and noon on the Saturday. Tickets, ranging from £5 for the Friday to £15 for the weekend, are available from The UK Centre for Carnival Arts, Vinyl Revelations on Cardigan Street in Luton from mid-June.
