Make tracks to railway display

IF you love trains then steam along to a special exhibition this weekend.

The Luton Model Railway Club’s 0-gauge section will be staging a model railway exhibition at the Royal British Legion Hall in Harpenden on Saturday.

There will be six 0-gauge railway layouts to enjoy, railway historian Geoff Woodward will be present with his stand on local railways, and there will be traders and information stands from the Luton and Brambleton clubs.

The reason the exhibition is being staged in Harpenden is that the centrepiece of the show will be a 53ft long model of Harpenden’s other railway station “Harpenden East”.

It was on the now defunct Hatfield, Welwyn, Luton and Dunstable Railway.

The model has been built by Luton club member Andy Ward, who used to live in Harpenden and remembers the original station being demolished in 1966.

At the time he promised himself that he would make a model of the station. You can now see the superb result of that promise.
