Renowned flautist is coming to Stanbridge

The winners of The Best European Group award at the Granada Jazz Festival, are heading to The Five Bells, Stanbridge on Friday July 9 for a special final gig in the current Greensand Jazz Summer series.

Grooveyard, led by virtuoso flautist Gareth Lockrane and featuring some of the UK’s leading young musicians, Grooveyard combines contemporary jazz with soul and funk influences.

Their 2012 album, The Strut, was Mojo Magazine’s Album of the Year.

Lockrane is known around the world as one of the most accomplished, prolific and versatile jazz flautists and composers, boasting an impressive resume of accolades and awards. He is also one of the only non-American jazz artists to maintain a presence in the prestigious Downbeat Magazine Critic’s Poll in the Rising-Star Flautist category.

Equally skilled as a composer, Lockrane holds a master’s degree from the National Film and Television School, and his musical output includes chamber trios, quartets, quintets, septets – for which he won a Parliamentary Jazz Award in the Best Album category for his album No Messin’ – and a highly acclaimed contemporary big band.
