Paul Youngs band Los Pacaminos are among the acts performing at the Rhythms of the World festival

One of Britain’s biggest world music events comes to Luton’s doorstep on Saturday and Sunday June 20 and 21.

Rhythms of the World Festival will host more than 125 acts across six stages over two days at Hitchin Priory, Tilehouse Street, Hitchin.

It has evolved into one of the most significant world music festivals in the UK, attracting up to 30,000 visitors to the two-day event.

People of all ages and backgrounds come from Hertfordshire and beyond to see local community talent perform alongside artists from around the world.

This year’s line-up includes the Brand New Heavies, Paul Young’s new group Los Pacaminos and the Neville Staple Band, formed by the former Specials member.

Simon Bartholomew of the Brand New Heavies said: “‘Rhythms Of The World Festival is exactly the kind of vibe we’re into - great music and that outdoors festival experience. You can’t beat it.

“It sounds corny, but it’s great for the whole family. It’s a great way to enjoy and introduce music as it should be heard and experienced like no other way – live.

“We’re constantly gigging so are always warmed and ready to get funky. The great thing about a festival is that everybody seems to get into the spirit and dress a little funky too, so we hope to see a lot of self expression from those that fancy it.”
