A whole new world for Ben

It is safe to say singer and musician Ben Adams has had a varied career.

Best known for his role in the band A1, he has been a song writer for many of the top pop acts, appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and the Norwegian version of Strictly Come Dancing.

But for now he is taking the title role in the pantomime Aladdin coming to Milton Keynes Theatre from Friday, December 4, to Sunday, January 10.

Ben said: “It is a role which I have played before.

“I did Aladdin at Woking and it was something which was good fun.

“This is a great show and one that I am looking forward to being it. It was the chance to work alongside Priscilla Presley which will be a great opportunity.”

However, while talking about the differences in his career, it leads to a small rant against internet encyclopedia Wikipedia. So I offer Ben the chance to set the record straight on some of the more bizarre facts.

Did he represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest?

Ben said: “Kind of. One of our members of A1 is Norwegian and we went on the show which chose the song that would have represented Norway at the contest.

“We came second which we were all a little relieved about. It meant we got all the benefit of getting back together rather than having to prepare for the contest.

“Plus it would have been odd for us to have represented Norway against Great Britiain.”

Next fact, he now writes songs for Robin Thicke, Craig David, JLS, Sam Bailey and Alexandra Burke. True or false.

Ben said: “Entirely true, one of the many things that I do.”

And finally, he took part in Skal Vi Danse, the Norwegian version of Strcitly Come Dancing.

True or false?

Ben added: “That is absolutely true.

“I did it in 2012. It was a good experience.

“Although I was dancing and getting feedback from the judges in Norwegian and I didn’t speak a word of it. There I was smiling away and they could have been slagging me off.”

Aside from the pantomime, Ben is now about to add another string to his bow.

Ben said: “I am currently writing a musical which has been a great challenge and something I have never done.

“I don’t want to talk too much about it as it is early stages but if I was going to describe it, it would be a cross between The Book of Mormon and Wicked.”

Tickets for the show are available from £12 and it is being performed at a variety of times.
