James Corden is One Man set for The Waterside

Aylesbury Waterside Theatre steps up a gear for its autumn season with a programme featuring the cream of drama, comedy, music and dance. Where else can you see Simon Callow, Bill Wyman and Omid Djalili in the same season ?

Kicking off the fun is the sensational hit One Man,Two Guvnors direct from its hugely successful sell-out run at the National Theatre.

James Corden leads the NT cast including Oliver Chris, Daniel Rigby and Jemima Rooper, in the laugh-a-minute comedy where sex, food and money are high on the agenda.

More drama comes from theatrical polymath, Simon Callow, in Dr Marigold & Mr Chops. This absorbing one man show tells two tales, providing a masterly blend of the comic, bizarre and poignant that is classic Dickens.

There’s also the return of Calendar Girls, on its final UK tour, starring the lovely Lynda Bellingham, who grew up locally in Aston Abbotts.

Musicals are represented by the classic Grease, starring winner of ITV’s Grease Is The Word, Danny Bayne, and there’s the return of Blood Brothers, starring X Factor’s Nikki Evans.

For families The Birmingham Stage Company bring their acclaimed production of Rudyard Kipling’s timeless story The Jungle Book; there’s Roary The Racing Car, Numberjacks and Bob the Builder in Bob’s Big Theatre Build.

The classics are represented by Northern Ballet who are performing Tchaikovsky’ s The Nutcracker and Ellen Kent’s production of Verdi’s La Traviata and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.

Musicians include, here’s a blast from the past, The Osmonds (!), Bill Wyman, The Drifters, and Steeleye Span with tributes to Elvis and The Beatles.

There’s visits from Gardeners Question Time, The Vagina Monologues, psychic Sally Morgan, and comedians Stephen Merchant, Omid Djalili, Reginald D Hunter, Chris Addison, Jerry Sadowitz, Jethro and Milton Jones.

After a sellout first season, the Comedy Club returns to the venue’s more intimate second space. The second space also provides regular Waterside Insights, informative talks celebrating the arts. This season you can look forward to James Corden (30 Sep) talking about his remarkable acting life on stage and screen and bringing the National play to the stage, seasoned panto writer and performer Eric Potts (08 Oct) and Northern Ballet’s artistic director David Nixon (28 Oct) You may also want to give your quiff an extra curl for the theatre’s Grease Party Night in October too!

Wrapping up the season in time for Christmas is magical family pantomime Dick Whittington starring panto king, West End and TV favourite Jonathan Wilkes and much loved soap star Gillian Wright. This Christmas just wouldn’t be complete without tickets to the panto paved with gold, packed full of songs, dance, comedy and hilarious audience participation.

A peek into 2012 will see the West End and Broadway sensation Legally Blonde (31 Jan – 11 Feb) turn the town pink, music from the Osmond’s (13 Mar) and much, much more – on sale now.
