Originally formed in 1998, the group had great success and many alumni have gone on to appear on television, gain places in the country’s best stage schools, and three even played major roles in the West End.

The group disbanded in 2008 but five years later they are ready to re-form.

Director Stuart Farrar said: “Several members of the production team, including myself, had other commitments which meant we couldn’t devote the time needed to run a successful society. However, things have changed. All the team have become available and it seemed a great time to re-form. I have lost count of the phone calls I have received pleading for us to start again and hopefully everyone will be pleased.”

Stuart will be joined by musical director Charlotte Tabert and choreographer Caroline Fitch, who is currently appearing in professional pantomime.

The first production, Summer of ‘78, will be performed at the Luton Library Theatre in May and rehearsals start on January 11 at 9.30am. Anyone aged 13 - 18 is welcome to join.

Rehearsals will take place very Saturday morning at Icknield High School in Riddy Lane, Luton, and the group already have a list of future productions including We Will Rock You, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hairspray and more.

Stuart said: “As before we want to give youngsters a chance to appear in top musicals that will be professionally produced to a very high standard. Colin Smith Youth Theatre has proved to be a fantastic springboard for youngsters and I am sure there is loads of young talent in the area, who can step forward and seize the opportunity.”

Everyone will be taught a number at the first rehearsal so you don’t need to prepare an audition piece, just turn up on January 11.
