Zuzia’s bid for stardom in Open Mic competition

A TALENTED teen is competing for a place in the Open Mic UK national finals in London.

Zuzia Briggs from Luton has made it through to the regional finals of the music competition and will now be performing at live showcases to win the chance to perform at the 02 and receive a recording contract.

The 16-year-old Cardinal Newman student sings a variety of music styles, particularly songs from musicals, rock, pop and country.

Zuzia, who also plays guitar, said: “I’m not too nervous at the moment about the performance as I have a lot of support from my friends and family, but I know that the second I see the stage I’ll probably want to run very far away rather than actually perform in front of such a formidable line-up of judges, press and music labels.

“To win this would be the greatest achievement of my life so far. I mean GCSEs were important, but getting through to the finals of a national singing competition like Open Mic? It just doesn’t happen every day. It’s not something I ever expected I’d be doing this year – even this century. It would really mean a lot to me, but it would especially mean a lot to my friends and family. I’d like to make them proud by getting through.”

Previous Open Mic winners include Birdy, a Radio 1 favourite who is now signed to Warner Music at just 15 years old.

Zuzia has her own Youtube channel, ‘Inspire Sweet Music 95’, where you can see her performing, and she is currently looking for a company to sponsor her bid for stardom.

The regional finals take place at the Corn Exchange in Bedford on October 23. Tickets are availabe from www.openmicuk.co.uk.
