Confidence on rise for firm’s 200th birthday

One of Britain’s oldest engineering companies is looking forward to its 200th anniversary after coming through a tough period.

Hayward Tyler has been making specialist pumps and motors in Kimpton Road, Luton, since 1815 and on Thursday posted a set of financial results that cheered the City and boosted its share price.

Even though the actual manufacturing operation in Luton made a loss last year, Hayward Tyler has a profitable aftersales business built up over many years in the oil, gas and power station business in America, India and China. Management at the seven-acre site where 180 people are employed have publicly thanked employees for sticking with it during the company’s rollercoaster year.
