Get ready for The Women Like Me Luton Conference!
A “life changing” conference is coming to Luton to inspire women to achieve their full potential and help them overcome any mental health difficulties.
Jasmine Mbye, founder and director of The Like Me CIC, is organising The Women Like Me Luton Conference on June 14 to empower females.
The event will have a range of speakers, activities, and exhibits from businesses, as well as a focus on advice for common mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression and stress.
Jasmine said: “I attended last year and it was an unexpectedly amazing day - I was dumbstruck; there were over 200 women in the room!
“I was a new mum with my six month old daughter and had been made redundant whilst pregnant, so hadn’t worked in ages.
“I felt lost and the event reignited my passion to work with women, whilst I unearthed a desire to work with girls so my beautiful daughter will have a lovely Luton to grow up in.”
The event last year was run by Luton Borough Council who were looking for someone else to take the reins, so Jasmine jumped at the chance, also founding her new company.
However, she admits that her confidence hasn’t always been so high and now wants to inspire others.
She said: “ I had a challenging childhood and became quite insecure, but I masked it.
“It wasn’t until my early 20s that I opened up at a church service about how I felt- unlovable and unworthy - my friend I’d invited couldn’t believe it.
“Services and reading helped me and by my 30s I felt comfortable. Church taught me: think of something you would do for free: ‘that’s what you should do for a living’.
“In previous jobs I’d enjoyed watching my colleagues grow, and now The Like Me CIC will hold development workshops, and I am also planning a conference for girls. Our aim is to develop courage and confidence and celebrate woman and girlhood.”
The event will be at Venue 360 from 9am until 5pm.
Confirmed speakers include: Councillor Jacqi Burnett, Corene Campbell, Clare Copleston, Anusjka Regis-Etumnu, Kuljit Lally, and the event’s very own Jasmine Mbye.
