JD Wetherspoon announce closure of London Hatter
The London Hatter, on Park Street, will close its doors for the last time this Sunday (February 21) after its owner made a ‘commercial decision’ on the site.
The pub– which replaced Legends nightclub– was first opened in July 2011 after a £960,000 refurb.

Over the years it has been included in the Campaign for Real Ale’s Good Beer Guide for the quality of its selection.
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon told the Luton News: “We can confirm that The London Hatter is closing on February 21.
“We understand that the pub’s loyal customers will be disappointed with the decision, however, Wetherspoon has made a commercial decision to close the pub.
“Staff at the pub will be re-employed at other Wetherspoon pubs.

“The company operates other pubs in Luton and hopefully The London Hatter customers will choose to go to those.”
JD Wetherspoon will continue to run The White House on Bridge Street, Luton, and The Gary Cooper in Court Drive, Dunstable.
South Bedfordshire CAMRA secretary Mike Coombes told the Luton News: “It is not too suprising to me as Wetherspoons have been selling pubs recently to downsize.
“It is an indication of how the pub business is going at the moment.

“There are not enough people going to pubs, which is what we are trying to reverse.
“Obviously they have decided that the White House is the better one to keep.”
