On Tuesday, September 21, The Linden Academy, a primary school in the heart of Luton, launched its impressive new reading programme, ‘Read, Write Inc’, a literacy initiative aiming to teach children to read accurately and fluently and have better comprehension.

To celebrate the day, children were invited to dress up in outfits that represented a letter to make up the phrase ‘Read, Write, Inc, TLA’.

Miss Nawaz, Deputy Head of The Linden Academy, said: “They looked wonderful in their costumes, demonstrating plenty of creativity and effort. The children took part in exciting reading activities throughout the day and met Fred the Frog who will take part in every lesson going forward.

“Learning to read is one of the most important things a child must master at school. Everything else in their education depends on it, so we must put as much energy as we possibly can into making sure that every single child learns to read as quickly as they possibly can.

“This new phonics programme will ensure all our children learn to read and write in a fun but structured systematic way. It will teach phonics in a cumulative way and we look forward to inviting our parents to bitesize sessions, to learn how to support their child at home,” added Miss Nawaz.

The Linden Academy is offering new families the opportunity to visit to meet with teachers and see the school for themselves. For more information about these open mornings and afternoons, please visit www.linden.thesharedlearningtrust.org.uk.
