‘We need help’

A GROUP representing small businesses across Luton and south Beds has called on the government to help firms employ more people.

The Federation of Small Businesses’ (FSB) Voice of Small Business Index for the first quarter of 2011 has shown small businesses’ employment intentions have weakened, even though confidence has improved since the end of 2010.

The FSB wants the government to extend the National Insurance Contributions (NICs) holiday to the very smallest companies. This would help small firms take on staff.

FSB Luton and South Beds chairman Carole Hegley said despite evidence that members are ‘bouncing back’ she added: “Questions still remain about the strength of recovery.”
