Ali Aklakul Islam honoured with international Arkansas Traveler award

The Arkansas Traveler is a prestigious honorary title presented to distinguished individuals who have demonstrated goodwill and positively represented the State of Arkansas. This honour serves as a formal recognition of out-of-state visitors who have made meaningful contributions to the state’s progress, cultural enrichment, or general well-being.
Recipients are considered unofficial ambassadors, promoting the spirit and hospitality of Arkansas beyond its borders. The certificate, which includes the official Seal of the State of Arkansas, is signed by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Secretary of State Cole Jester, and the honouree’s sponsor. It may be presented in a formal ceremony attended by these officials or delivered via post. Alongside the certificate is the story of the original Arkansas Traveler, a folktale rooted in the state’s cultural history.
One recent honouree is Ali Aklakul Islam who has worked for an American company for over nine years and a community activist and long term volunteer. Upon receiving the Arkansas Traveler certificate, Ali expressed surprise and deep gratitude.
“It is with great honour and satisfaction I accept this with graciousness,” he said.
Having visited the United States in February, including a memorable trip to Arkansas, Ali described the experience as unforgettable. He was especially moved by the fact that the recognition came without prior knowledge, making the award an even more humbling surprise. The Arkansas Traveler award is backed by a resolution passed by the Arkansas Legislature and has a longstanding legacy. The program was established in 1941, with the first certificate being awarded on May 20, 1941, to then-President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Over the decades, the honour has continued to highlight individuals whose work or presence uplifts the image and community of Arkansas on a broader scale.
Ali Aklakul Islam’s recognition reinforces the enduring spirit of the Arkansas Traveler tradition — welcoming, appreciative, and proudly representative of a state that values friendship, excellence, and cultural connection across borders.
