St Anne's Scout Group, based in Crawley Green Road, Luton, have donated a large quantity of their tents and The St Anne’s Scout Group, have shown incredible community spirit by donating a large amount of camping equipment and tents to help those affected by the recent hurricanes in Jamaica.

When news reached the group about the devastation caused by the storms, the Scouts decided they wanted to do something practical to help. Together with their leaders and families, they gathered up spare tents and equipment to send to the island as part of the Jamaican Hurricane Appeal.

Group Lead Volunteer, John Carmichael, said the group were happy to support the cause as acts such as this truly embody our scouting values:

“Our young people are always thinking about how they can make a difference. We realised we had lots of good-quality equipment that could provide shelter for families who’ve lost their homes, so we wanted to send it where it’s needed most.”

Our Group Chair, Lee Allen, and his Son, Ben, also a leader with the group, sorted and delivered the items to a local collection point where they were received gratefully.

The donation will go directly to communities in Jamaica that are still recovering from the damage caused by the severe weather.

Lee, commented: “It’s wonderful to see young people from our town helping families on the other side of the world, It really shows how kindness and teamwork can travel far.”

The St Anne’s Scouts hope their efforts will inspire others to get involved in the ongoing appeal — whether by donating equipment, funds, or simply spreading the word.

“Scouting is all about helping others,” said one of the Scouts. “It feels great knowing we can make a difference.”

Donations to the Jamaican Hurricane Appeal can still be made through local collection points and community groups across Luton.
