Green-fingered kids digging for charity

GREEN-FINGERED children are blossoming into generous fundraisers as 140 school pupils take part in a national charity campaign this week

Children from Toddington schools Parkfields Middle and St George VC Lower got their gardening gloves on to raise money for small national charity Greenfingers by getting friends and family to sponsor them to do a variety of small gardening jobs.

Greenfingers and its partner Honda (UK) Lawn and Garden aim to raise money to create magical gardens for children with life-limiting illnesses in hospices around the UK.

Deborah Skillicorn, director of marketing and fundraising at Greenfingers, said: “We are so grateful to all the children and staff for their enthusiasm and support. We know how much our gardens make a difference to the lives of children and their families in hospices, so we’re really thrilled there’s been such a good take-up in the first year of the campaign.”

The campaign also aims to promote gardening and safety in the garden, so a representative from Honda UK Lawn and Garden gave talks to children at the schools on Monday and Wednesday.
