International honour for Luton primary school

A primary school in Luton has received a prestigious award, which recognises its ongoing efforts to widen their pupils knowledge and understanding of other cultures, languages and people around the world.

The International School Award has been presented by the British Council to The Linden Academy, on Osborne Road.

The Vale Academy, on Wilbury Drive in Dunstable and The Rushmere Park Academy, on East Street in Leighton Buzzard, have also received the award.

All three schools are part of The Shared Learning Trust, and the Trust’s Director of Primary Education, Rebekah Howe, said: “This is wonderful news!

"This is a really prestigious award which reflects the ongoing hard work and the focus on our diverse, international communities and the place of our pupils have within those communities.”

Awarding all three schools the Foundation Certificate, the British Council assessor made many positive comments including:

For the Linden Academy: “Linden Academy has made a great start to its International work, which is enriching its pupils' education and awareness, as well as encouraging them to become global citizens.”For the Vale Academy: “It is evident that the school is committed to developing enquiring young learners who are keen to take action to bring about a better, more informed world - the central focus on primary school improvement is excellent to see.”

For the Rushmere Park Academy: “It is evident that your goal to widen the pupil's knowledge and understanding of the other cultures, languages, and peoples around the world has been met… the extensive cross-curricular nature of your activities is notable and very impressive.”

Rebekah Howe added: “This is a huge milestone in our efforts to enable the children to become empowered global citizens of the future, ready for a world full of opportunities.

"My congratulations to everyone involved in this work.”
