Splashing the holiday cash for Parkfields

Students at Parkfields School in Toddington are racing to see who can find the most leftover holiday cash as they fundraise for new sports facilities in a very multicultural way.

Foreign coins, old bank notes and old pennies are piling up at the middle school ready to be changed into modern British currency by a company for the school to spend.

Each year group is competing to see who can raise the most cash –so there has been lots of scrabbling down the backs of sofas, turning out old handbags and rummaging in drawers.

Heather Dorling who organised the fundraising initiative said: “We started a competition for the most collected over a three month period. The results have been fantastic so far and we had a weigh-in last Friday. At the moment we have approximately 20kg of coins, with Year Seven being top of the leaderboard with over six kg collected.”

The collection is for much-needed sports facilities at the school. Any donations, however small, would be greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at the school office or at Sopers Gifts or Sweet Perfection in High Street, Toddington.
