A woman has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money to bake cakes for NHS staff at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and the Lister Hospital.

Gill Ingram, from Harpenden, decided to give something sweet to the staff at her local NHS hospitals, she set up the page to raise money to buy the ingredients and three businesses are making the cakes for the nurses and doctors.

She said: "Three wonderful local businesses are making cakes every week on a not for profit basis for frontline NHS staff at our local hospitals, these include The Lister and Luton and Dunstable.

"It is going really well and we have had good support, we have made two deliveries of cakes.

"I remember when my daughter was at medical school and had to work in the A&E, during her shift there was a limited time to take break, there must be even less time now.

"We thought this way there is a nice treat for them, something sweet for them to have, the cakes are made by professional bakeries and the money raised is for the ingredients, the businesses are baking the cakes for free.

"Please help us support the workers by supplying them with something sweet to get them through their long shifts. We are looking to crowd fund the basic costs of doing this.

"We are full of admiration for the courage of the NHS staff to even go to work with the current challenges and risks that they are facing in the present time.

"Our usual response to someone’s troubles is to bake a cake and this initiative provides a little bit of that comfort in these worrying times.

"Please help us to show how much we appreciate these doctors, nurses and full support team by donating to help us provide cakes every week."

Gill, who is married to a GP and has a daughter who is training as a junior hospital doctor, has organised for three businesses - Harpenden based cookery school The Kitchen Front, Quotidian Bakery in Hitchin, and the Brewery Tearooms in Walkern - to bake cakes to be delivered to the hospitals.

The aim is deliver cakes to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital and Lister Hospital every Thursday, and the more money they raise, the more cakes they can bake.
