Coronavirus latest: 17 new cases confirmed in Luton

Latest figures show 17 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Luton today (Monday), according to Public Health England.

The total number of infections in the borough now stands at 1,440 (+17).

It follows a spate of 33 new cases over Saturday and Sunday.

Previous data shared by Public Health England relied solely on Pillar 1 (testing from Public Health England and NHS Hospital Trusts), but as of Thursday last week, the information includes Pillar 2 (non-clinical and commercial testing).

NHS England figures show 282 people have died at the L&D Hospital over the course of the pandemic, with two deaths reported over the weekend.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 1,234 (+1) cases while Bedford's figure stands at 1,273 (+1).

Across the country, there have been 290,133 infections at an increase of 530 over the past 24 hours.

44,830 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, up by 11 since yesterday.
