Coronavirus latest: 72 new cases confirmed in Luton today

The total number of cases in the borough now stands at 5,499 (+90).

The case rate in Luton is currently 285.4 per 100,000.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 3,452 (+40) cases while Bedford's figure is at 3,205 (+38).

There have been 1,574,562 lab-confirmed cases across the UK, up by a daily rise of 17,555.

57,031 deaths have been recorded within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test, with 498 added today.

Today, it was announced Luton will enter tier two (high alert) restrictions along with the rest of Bedfordshire when lockdown ends on Wednesday, December 2.

According to government advice, in tier two:

> You must not socialise with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble in any indoor setting;

> You must not socialise in a group of more than six people outside, including in a garden or a public space – this is called the ‘rule of 6’;

> Businesses and venues can continue to operate, in a Covid-secure manner, other than those which remain closed by law, such as nightclubs;

> Pubs and bars must close, unless operating as restaurants. Hospitality venues can only serve alcohol with substantial meals;

> Hospitality businesses selling food or drink for consumption on their premises are required to provide table service only and stop taking orders after 10pm;

> Places of worship remain open but you must not socialise with people from outside of your household or support bubble.
