There have been 78 new positive Covid-19 tests confirmed in Luton over the past 24 hours.

The total for the borough is now 3,642 according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 2,550 (+44) cases, while Bedford's figure stands at 2,482 (+33).

The recorded death toll in Luton is 195, Central Bedfordshire has recorded 237 deaths, and there have been 176 deaths in Bedford, according to Public Health England.

There have been 1,099,059 lab-confirmed cases across the UK, up by 25,177.

47,742 deaths have been recorded within 28 days of a positive test, with a large daily rise of 492.

On Saturday, it was announced that the entire country would enter a national four-week lockdown beginning tomorrow (Thursday).

The government hopes a lockdown will help stem the rising tide of new Covid-19 cases.
