Thursday's figures record 84 new positive Covid-19 tests in Luton.

The total for the borough is now 3,726 according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

Owing to technical difficulties, the Public Health England website did not update the data until late last night (Thursday).

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 2,601 (+51) cases, while Bedford's figure stands at 2,524 (+42).

The recorded death toll in Luton is 195, Central Bedfordshire has recorded 237 deaths, and there have been 177 deaths in Bedford, according to Public Health England.

There have been 1,123,197 lab-confirmed cases across the UK, up by 24,141.

48,120 deaths have been recorded within 28 days of a positive test, with a large daily rise of 378.

The government hopes a lockdown will help stem the rising tide of new Covid-19 cases.
