Coronavirus latest: Eight new infections confirmed in Luton today

Coronavirus figures in Luton are continuing to rise with eight new confirmed infections today, according to Public Health England.

The total number of infections in the borough now stands at 858 (+8). Yesterday (Monday) there were seven new infections.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 778 (+3) cases while Bedford's total is now 803 (+2)

NHS England figures show 275 people with the virus have died at Luton & Dunstable Hospital over the course of the pandemic.

Across the country, there have been 312,654 infections at an increase of 689 over the past 24 hours.

43,730 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, up by 155 since yesterday.

Today, Prime Minister Boris Johnson vowed to kickstart the economy with a £5bn programme for building new homes.
