Coronavirus latest: Four new cases brings Luton total to 1,368

Four new instances of coronavirus have been confirmed in the past 24 hours, according to Public Health England.

The total number of cases in the borough now stands at 1,368 (+4).

Thursday saw 496 cases added to Luton's total after Public Health England made changes to its data gathering.

Previous data shared by Public Health England relied solely on Pillar 1 (testing from Public Health England and NHS Hospital Trusts), but as of Thursday the information includes Pillar 2 (non-clinical and commercial testing).

Luton has the 18th-worst coronavirus infection rate among authorities in England and Wales, at 638.9 per 100,000.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire stands has 1211 (+2) cases while Bedford's figure is at 1,238 (+4).

Across the country, there have been 285,416 infections at an increase of 516 over the past 24 hours.

44,220 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, up by 22 since yesterday.
