Coronavirus latest: Four new cases confirmed in Luton

Four new coronavirus infections have been confirmed in Luton over the past 24 hours, according to figures from Public Health England.

The total number of infections in the borough now stands at 1,392 (+4).

Previous data shared by Public Health England relied solely on Pillar 1 (testing from Public Health England and NHS Hospital Trusts), but as of Thursday the information includes Pillar 2 (non-clinical and commercial testing).

The first coronavirus deaths in five days have been recorded at Luton and Dunstable Hospital Trust, the latest figures show.

NHS England figures show 280 people had died at the L&D Hospital as of 5pm on Wednesday, July 8.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire stands has 1,228 (+4) cases while Bedford's figure have increased by one to 1,268 (+1).

Across the country, there have been 288,133 infections at an increase of 512 over the past 24 hours.

44,650 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, up by 48 since yesterday.
