Coronavirus latest: No new cases confirmed in Luton in past 24 hours

No new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Luton in the past 24 hours, according to Public Health England.

The total number of cases in the borough remains at 817. There was an increase of seven cases yesterday (Thursday).

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 729 (+2) cases while Bedford's figure has risen to 772 (+11).

There have been no new coronavirus-related deaths reported at Luton & Dunstable Hospital today.

NHS England figures show 274 people with the disease have died at the L&D as of 5pm on Wednesday, June 17.

Across the country, there have been 301,815 infections at an increase of 1,346 over the past 24 hours.

A total of 42,461 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, up by 173 since yesterday.

At today's coronavirus daily briefing, Education Secretary Gavin Williamson said that all children will be back at school in September.

Mr Williamson said advice for schools planning their full reopening in September would be published in the next two weeks.

The coronavirus alert level across the UK was downgraded to level 3 today.

Analysis by the Guardian revealed that more than 1,000 people with the virus died each day over 22 days in April.
