279,856 have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the UK, rising by 1,871 since yesterday.

A further 359 people have died in the past 24 hours, bringing the official UK death toll to 39,728.

Today in the House of Commons, Home Secretary Priti Patel confirmed plans for all new arrivals in the UK to isolate for 14 days.

Anyone who leaves isolation before 14 days could be slapped with a £1,000 fine.

"We will not allow a reckless minority to put our domestic recovery at risk," the Home Secretary said.

The proposal has been criticised by airlines. A spokeswoman from Ryanair said: "This 14-day UK quarantine is ineffective, completely useless, and will have no effect on British passengers who will largely ignore it."
