Coronavirus latest: Two new diagnoses brings official Luton cases to 670

Two new instances of coronavirus have been diagnosed in Luton in the past 24 hours, according to Public Health England.

That brings the total number of officially diagnosed cases in the borough to 670.

There were sharp rise elsewhere in the county, with Central Bedfordshire at 593 (+15) cases, while Bedford has 583 (+31) - one of its biggest daily leaps.

Across the UK, a total of 248,293 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19, increasing by 2,472 since yesterday.

A further 235 people with coronavirus have died in hospital since yesterday, bringing the total death toll to 35,576.

For the first time during the pandemic, London has recorded no new cases of coronavirus for a full 24-hour period - with none of the swabs taken in the capital yesterday testing positive.

And today at Prime Minister's Questions, Boris Johnson came head-to-head with Sir Keir Starmer over the care home crisis and testing and tracing plans.

The PM told the Commons that by June 1, the UK will have 25,000 trackers in place "capable of tracking the contacts of 10,000 new cases a day".
