A pharmacy in Luton has installed a screen at the counter to protect staff during the coronavirus outbreak.

Workers at Makans Pharmacy, on Dunstable Road, are having to deal with numerous customers face-to-face on a daily basis, to protect them Bhavesh Makan - pharmacy owner - decided to take extra measures and install a large screen at the front desk.

The screens were installed by Business Interiors on Saturday, March 28.

Mr Makan said: "We have to stay open, as a pharmacist we are classed as key workers, I wanted to get the glass in to protect our staff and customers and it still allows us to do our job.

"In the last week people are listening more and following the government's advice and only coming out for essentials.

"But before lockdown we had lots of people coming out and we were really busy, we had to stay quite late on many occasions to catch up on work.

"It is now calmer and more controlled, we are still busy with people getting prescriptions and medication.

"We offer a delivery service and we are looking for volunteers to help deliver.

"If people are interested in volunteering, they need to go through the NHS's Good Sam app as they need to be vetted on there."

The family business has been serving the Luton community since 1979, Bhavesh took over from his dad.
