A school in Luton has donated science goggles to Luton and Dunstable University Hospital for the NHS staff.

Foxdell Junior School, in Luton, made the donation of 30 pairs of goggles to the hospital after the school was contacted by a headteacher in Harrow about a need for goggles for NHS staff.

John Scales, from Foxdell Junior School, said: "We sent 30 pairs of science goggles to the local NHS hospital, as a science consultant working at the school I decided that the goggles would be better off being used to help in the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, instead of sitting in our store cupboard until the start of next term.

"I want to raise awareness of this, as it may encourage other schools to do the same as there will be hundreds of pairs of these goggles lying idle at the moment and they could be put to better use."

One of the nurses from the hospital said: "We go through so much equipment but these goggles can be washed and used again, we are genuinely so grateful for the donation."

A spokesperson for Luton and Dunstable Hospital said: "We are grateful for any donations, we would ask the public to contact the Luton and Dunstable Hospital's Charitable Fund for more information about what is needed and where items can be dropped off."
