On Friday, MP Rachel Hopkins received her first vaccine jab at Boots in Luton's The Mall and used the opportunity to encourage fellow residents to follow suit.

Ms Hopkins said: “First of all I would like to thank all the NHS staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and have made this vaccination rollout such a success.

"The whole process was very smooth and the vaccination centre in Boots is conveniently located in the town centre."

Since the start of the vaccination rollout, the number of people being admitted to hospital seriously ill with Covid-19 has fallen dramatically.

This fall in serious illness has allowed the reopening of schools and businesses, and progress towards everyday life returning to normal.

Those aged over 45 can book both of their doses by logging onto www.nhs.uk or by calling 119.
