New report reveals number of coronavirus-related deaths in each area of Luton

A new report has shed light on the number of coronavirus-related deaths in each neighbourhood of Luton during the pandemic.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show the number of Covid-19-related deaths recorded between March 1 to June 30, as well as the total deaths for each area.

The figures for Luton show Kingsway ward had the highest percentage, with 11 coronavirus-related deaths recorded out of a total of 20 deaths (55%).

In total, 210 coronavirus-related deaths were recorded out of 700 deaths in Luton (30%).

Public health bosses in the town have urged the public to continue to follow stringent measures to reduce the spread of the virus.

This includes maintaining a social distance of two metres, wearing a face mask in public, avoiding any large gatherings and regular hand washing.

Gerry Taylor, Luton Borough Council's director for public health, said last week: “We must never forget for a moment that what we are dealing with here is a deadly disease that continues to cause death, suffering and pain.

“The most important thing we can all do is to keep washing our hands regularly and make sure we keep at least 2 metre away from other people. In addition, wearing a face covering is vital where proper social distancing is difficult to maintain.

"Wearing a face covering can protect others around you, as well as showing consideration and can reassure those who are anxious.”
