Q&A time over hospital clinical care

A “public engagement” event about the quality of Luton & Dunstable Hospital clinical care will be held in Dunstable on Thursday, November 14.

Anyone interested can attend the meeting, at 10am in the Salvation Army Worship and Community Centre, Bull Pond Lane.

It is a chance to hear from a panel including South West Beds MP Andrew Selous, hospital chairman Spencer Colvin, medical director Dr Mark Patten, and GP and health commissioner Dr Paul Hassan.

The hospital says: “Nationally, the scrutiny and inspection of hospitals is designed to ensure safer and better quality of care for patients. At the L&D, we believe it is important to listen to what patients say about their care as we strive for clinical excellence.

“At our public event, Dr Mark Patten will talk about how the L&D Hospital can manage the services it offers in order to safeguard clinical quality and what that means for our patients.

“There will be an opportunity at the meeting for the audience to put questions to the panel.”

Mr Selous will speak about improving the quality of NHS orthopaedic care.

The MP said: “I want to set out in public some recent issues about dynesys implant operations for back pain performed at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

“I believe there are lessons to be learnt from what happened here and across the NHS and I will also cover proposals to improve orthopaedic care across the NHS produced by Professor Tim Briggs, the former medical director of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, in his ‘Getting It Right First Time’ report.”
