100% teens taking over Hat Factory

In the past year I’ve seen so many interesting, entertaining and hilarious productions at the Hat Factory, but the venue remains relatively unknown to many locals, especially young people.

Now that’s all set to change as the Hat Factory producers are looking for a team of 15 people aged 13-18 to become young producers for a year and put on their own original shows.

So if you fancy yourself as the next Danny Boyle, Jay-Z, Jessie J or Calvin Harris, this is for you.

Whether you’re into street dance, make up design, music videos, fashion, event photography, spoken word, poetry, theatre, circus, acrobatics, blogging or dance, you can join the 100% Programme.

The young producers will meet at least once a week and not only create three shows themseves, but also help to decide what other shows should be performed at the Hat Factory, to help make it more accessible to their generation.

Lorie Jo Trainor-Buckingham, Hat Factory trainee producer said: “This is about building a relationship with young, creative people in the area so they can put on their own shows and tell us what they would like to see at the Hat Factory in the future.”

The first show will be in October, but the other two are undefined as yet.
