A wonderful win for indie pop-rock band

Knowing Slash from Guns N’ Roses used the same guitar pedal you’re playing with must give an extra sparkle to a performance.

Perhaps that touch of music heritage is one of the reasons The Wondersmiths have been so successful.

Or more likely, it’s their energetic performances, indie pop-rock and original songs that won them MMG Battle of the Bands regionals.

Guitarist Dave Owen, 27, said: “What makes us stand out is that our songs are incredible. We work hard and everything we do takes us one step closer to our goal.”

The four-piece group, which also includes Chris Horncastle, Alex Kaltio and Oli Franklin, will now play in the national finals of Battle of the Bands on March 23.

They’ve made a name for themselves on the London music scene, as well as playing gigs in their hometown of Luton and supporting bands like The Maccabees, Bloc Party, Kasabian and Tribes.

Dave said: “When opportunities come up we grab them. The Macabees were great, we got to hang out with them. Our best gigs are in Camden where we’ve sold out and we stage-dive into the crowd.”
