Can you give these special cats a home?

TWO cats with FIV, the feline equivalent of HIV, are looking for permanent homes this Easter.

Kind-hearted cat-lovers who could give Elvis or George a home are encouraged to contact the Cats Protection Luton, Dunstable and District Branch.

Cats with the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, which does not affect humans, are ideal indoor pets who like to stay close to their owner.

Rebecca Healey from Cats Protection said: “FIV-positive cats can make fabulous companions as they remain indoors close to their owner and are particularly suited to flats and houses without gardens.

“FIV-positive cats can lead normal lives and remain healthy for many years. By keeping FIV positive cats indoors, which also reduces their risk of spreading infection to other cats, this reduces their risk of succumbing to other infectious diseases, to which they may be more susceptible.

“And as medical advances are made, FIV-positive cats can have longer lifespans than previously expected.”

Elvis, four, pictured far right, was from a stray colony but obviously had an owner at some point as he is extremely tame and affectionate and other than food, loves nothing more than a stroke.

Rebecca said: “He will insist on sitting on your lap for strokes and will meow in protest until he gets his own way! He is happy to sleep throughout the day and sit in your lap in the evening.

“He’s not scared of people or loud noises so would be perfect in a house with dogs or children. He has been shaved by the vets as his fur was so matted and in such a poor condition when he came into our care but this will grow back very soon.

“Elvis is in great health and a very handsome long-haired tabby cat (even with no fur on his back and sides).”

George, above left, is a ginger and white boy and is looking for an extra special indoor home too.

Rebecca said: “He came into our care as a stray as he had been living in a shed in a ladies garden for some time. He is a super friendly boy who loves to have his belly rubbed once he gets to know you!

“George has had a very hard life prior to coming into CP and now must now be an indoor only cat. He is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated and will make an ideal companion, our vets says he is about 7 years old.”
