Bridgestone launches new Potenza Sport tyre for high-performance cars

Tyre maker Bridgestone has launched a new sports tyre aimed at the makers and owners of some of the world’s most desirable luxury and performance cars.

The new Potenza Sport has been developed by Bridgestone in consultation with thousands of experienced drivers to offer maximum grip and control for models from the likes of Lamborghini, Maserati and BMW.

The new tyre has been rated as the best in its class by respected German testing authority TÜV SÜD, with segment-leading dry braking, cornering and straight line stability, as well as being deemed the best performer in wet cornering and handling.

Due to be sold in sizes from 17 to 22 inches, the Potenza Sport is intended for premium saloons and SUVs as well as all-out sports cars. The tyre has already been chosen by Maserati as the manufacturer-supplied tyre for its new MC20 supercar and it will also be fitted as standard to the Lamborghini Huracan STO and BMW 8 Series coupe.

Bridgestone says new design and production processes were used in developing the Potenza Sport’s compound and tread pattern to help improve the tyres’ stability, braking performance and longevity while optimising rolling resistance.

“The Potenza Sport is the latest chapter in Bridgestone’s long legacy in high performance,” said Emilio Tiberio, chief technical officer and chief operating officer at Bridgestone EMIA. “It is the result of our history and innovation in motorsports, combined with our commitment to always going the extra mile to meet drivers’ needs, and an investment in research and development that is unmatched in the tyre industry.

“We engineered a premium, high-value sports tyre that keeps drivers in control while unlocking the performance of their vehicle. Potenza Sport is truly a new excellence in sports performance.”
