Christmas is coming to town with a fun-packed Lighting up Luton event

Luton’s annual Christmas lights switch-on returns on Saturday, November 23, in partnership with Luton BID and Luton Point.

The Lighting up Luton event will feature entertainment and live music from 2pm, with the lights switch-on scheduled for around 6pm. The town’s special guest this year is Bluey, who will be making personal appearances throughout the day courtesy of Luton BID.

Luton Point will also open its Enchanted Forest Grotto on the day from 10am, enabling visitors to meet Father Christmas in his log cabin, enjoy a festive craft and have a photo on the Woodland Throne.

The grotto will be open every weekend from November 23, then daily from Saturday, December 21 until Christmas Eve. Quiet sessions will be held each Sunday from 10am to 11am offering a quieter, more relaxed environment, similar to Luton Point’s weekly quiet hour. Entry is free if you spend £20 in stores at Luton Point or make a donation to charity.

Lighting up Luton is possible thanks to sponsorship through airport company, Luton Rising.

Cllr Javeria Hussain, vice chair of Luton Rising, said: “With something to appeal to every age group, our Lighting up Luton event is hugely popular with our residents. Once again, it’s a magical time of year as we welcome the Christmas season, and the festive lights are a treat that the whole town can enjoy and appreciate.

“We can’t wait to see Luton residents come together to enjoy the festive community atmosphere whilst supporting their local businesses, and a huge thank you to the volunteers that make these events possible. With special guest Bluey plus live music and festive crafts, it promises to be a great afternoon of entertainment.”
