Dunstable takeaway 'highly commended' at British Kebab Awards

A Turkish takeaway in Dunstable has won the 'Highly Commended' award in the Best Takeaway Regional category at the British Kebab Awards.

Brothers Orhan and Zak Gurbuz, who opened Irmak BBQ, High Street North, in 2016, attended the awards night in London on Tuesday, March 3.

The British Kebab Awards had an audience of over 1,200 guests including more than 110 MPs and Lords, guests were treated to a cocktail reception with a three-course meal.

There were 16 categories, including eight regional awards for recognising the best kebab restaurants across the UK.

Irmak BBQ Dunstable won the 'Highly Commended' award in the Just Eat Best Takeaway Regional category.

Orhan said: "We feel exceptionally privileged to have won the 'Highly Commended' in the Best Takeaway Regional category at the British Kebab Awards 2020.

"We would like to thank our loyal customers in Luton and Dunstable."

Thousands of members of the public voted for the 150 finalists to face the judges who included the Labour MP Carolyn Harris; Conservative MP David Warburton; British journalist,

Ash Sarkar; and Cobra Beer Sales Director, Samson Sohail.

Zak added: "A huge thank you goes to the Mayors of Luton, Dunstable and Houghton Regis councillors for their amazing support, accolades as great as this would not be possible without the support from everybody so we are truly grateful.

"We hope that we continue to grow as a business and look to further our success in many ways in the future. Thank you!"
