Delivery services such as Deliveroo have come into their own this year as we spend more time in our homes than ever before.

It's that time of year again, when food-delivery service Deliveroo takes a look back over the past year to reveal their annual ’Deliveroo Report’ - a list of the top trending dishes ordered on the platform.

This year has been like no other, and lockdown restrictions across the country have meant food-delivery has played a more important role in all of our lives than ever before.

According to Deliveroo research the top three most popular reasons for ordering a takeaway this year were:

- As a treat (45%)

- To support local restaurants during the pandemic (26%)

- Being bored of home cooking (24%)

For the second year in a row, the Five Guys Cheeseburger has won the hearts and stomachs of customers.

In addition to revealing the top trending dishes, Deliveroo can reveal which food trends from 2020 we can expect to see carry over into 2021. From banana bread to CBD and cloud bread, this year has seen the emergence of viral food trends from stay-at-home recipes to changing habits with sustainability at heart.

In Deliveroo research conducted by Censuswide, majority of Brits wanted to say goodbye to intermittent fasting, fermented foods, home-made sourdough, charcoal infused foods, natural wine, and sensation which took TikTok by storm - cloud bread. The food trends that the majority of Brits wanted to bring with them into 2021 are meat-free alternatives, dairy free-alternatives, home-made banana bread and pasta, and clean-eating. Respondents thought the biggest food trend of 2021 will be a move to cut down on food waste.
