Get ready to rock with Rock Chorus

Later this month, Music Makers comes to the Hat Factory, with a singing masterclass followed by the chance to perform with Dunstable-based rock choir, Rock Chorus.

Rock Chorus founder Lauren Field, a singer, songwriter and vocal coach, will lead the masterclass, which will see singing enthusiasts taught to sing in groups and in harmony.

Then in the evening, Rock Chorus will perform live in concert at the Hat Factory, with attendees from the masterclass able to join in if they wish.

The Rock Chorus repertoire includes rock and pop classics from the 1960s to the present day, from Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer and Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, through to Price Tag by Jessie J.

Lauren, who started Rock Chorus in 2009, said all that singers need to bring along to the workshop is their enthusiasm.

“You don’t need to have fantastic singing ability,” she said. “You just need to love doing it.

“Individual singers might not be strong, but as a collective they will sound fantastic.

“You don’t need to have any qualifications or experience.”

Rock Chorus now has eight choirs in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and north London, and Lauren says some members have found joining a choir to be life-changing.

“The things that people say to me makes it so worthwhile,” she said. “Some people say it’s changed their lives, opened up a whole new social life or given them a new purpose in life.

“People have said that it’s helped them after something horrible happened to them. But for lots of people it’s just given them an outlet for something they’ve always wanted to do.”

The events take place on June 28, with the singing masterclass starting at 6pm, and the concert starting at 8pm.

Both events cost £5, and the masterclass is open to people aged 13 and over.
