Get set for West Side Story MK style!

A SHAKESPEARE classic gets the modern treatment at the Milton Keynes Theatre this month when 150 talented youngsters perform their take on Arthur Laurents’ Romeo & Juliet update West Side Story.

Supported by Heart FM, this summer’s show offers an unmissable opportunity for audiences to be amazed by the stars of tomorrow.

Led by a team of industry professionals as part of the theatre’s brand new Stage Experience initiative, youngsters aged 9 to 21 will have just two weeks of a intensive rehearsals to get up to scratch for four spectacular performances from August 4-6.

The show tells the story of two 1950’s New yorkers, Maria and Tony, who fall in love, but are kept apart by their friends and families, leading to grave consequences.

Bedford-girl Jenny Lake, 18, plays the role of Maria and gained her passion for theatre at school where she took part in several musicals.

Jenny is joined by 16-year-old Ross Harmon, from Northampton who takes the role of her star-crossed lover Tony.

Ross is a keen singer and performer who recently appeared as Baby John in a schools production of West Side Story and is now taking part in a music development program in London.

The 150 strong cast includes many aspiring actors from Milton Keynes and they are supported by a number of youngsters who will take control backstage as crew, performing the essential jobs that are rarely seen by the audience.
